WHEN RAPE FOUND ITS VOICE

Rape was violated, ashamed and afraid
its voice was muted,
shrouded in pain.
Rape smiled on the outside—
cried on the inside.
Rape trembled with guilt,
couldn’t sleep in darkness—
Felt all alone in a crowded world.
Rape… became invisible…
and then,
was awakened by small whimper
that was its own.
Then came the scream from near the bone…
Words withheld came from the pit
of shame… from deep within.
Rapes strong voice yelled
“You will not win!”
Rape refused to be silenced again.
